Tres Charmant, le petit hotel de charme, en Montreal, just en face de la Parc de la Fountaine (and yes, there is a fountain). I’ve seen nothing like this in the US. A wonderful combination of good design, mais pas trop cher!
Here to celebrate our 10th anniversary, not only was there a bottle of champagne, but chocolates that are local and excellent (did I mention that I’m a bit of a chocolate bitch.) continued…
A fine holiday truffle. Subtle. This one could be paired with eggnog nicely! The Pascal Pochon line, out of Le Grand Hotel des Thermes in Saint Malo are outstanding for pairing with foods. Pochon apparently celebrates local spices, an idea I applaud heartily.
What happens when chocolate fiends die? They go to Paris. Every October for the past 10 years, there has been Le Salon du Chocolat. Sort of like a convention, but much better. A huge hall of about 100 exhibitors, all with samples… This is amazing.
My favorite was the chocolate “au cepes.” Thats right, the ganache with a hint of mushroom. Where does an idea like that come from? I should have bought a whole box.

We depart via Baltimore, through Philly. Who knew Philly was an international hub? Nice to see an airport with non-chain stores. No chocolate eating today – I’m trying to sleep on the Paris flight. I did pack a bar of my favorite Valrhona “Le Noir Amer” 71% chocolate – as a baseline to compare other chocolates.
